It is well known that there are a wide range of activities on the Costa del Sol. Whether you enjoy interesting culture, museums and historical sights, or elegant cuisine and great vibrant nightlife, or sporting activities of almost any kind, they are all here on the Costa in abundance.
The Costa is also well known for having some of the most beautiful white washed villages in Europe, with most of these places to be found just a little distance inland from the coast. These traditional villages subscribe to a more old (tranquil) way of life, making them ideal places to visit and have a break from a hectic life back home.
The Costa del Sol has been a popular destination since the 60's, amongst foreigners and Spaniards alike. This has caused a boom in the creation of entertainment venues, amusement parks and other kinds of attractions, Tivoli World, the Selwo Marine and Safari Parks and the Benalmadena Sea Life Centre and the Costa del Sol Hippodromo ( Horse race track) just to name a few.
Costa del Sol weather is well known for being generally mild, making it a great destination in both the summer and winter months. The coastline is sheltered by hills and mountains, allowing for a micro climate. With limited rainfall the region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 300 days per year. The Costa is very hot during the summer months, with average temperatures rarely falling below 30°C. Mild winters average at around 15°C. Obviously this climate makes it ideal for playing golf and there are a multitude of courses to choose from, as this part of Spain boasts of perhaps the highest concentration of high quality golf courses in Europe. There are over 50 courses in total.
The Costa del Sol also offers miles upon miles of gold sandy beaches to choose from, spotlessly clean and serviced with a varied collection of Chiringuitos (beach bars). There are also some great marinas to visit like the one in Benalmadena Costa. Since its inauguration the marina has been awarded the "Best Marina in the World" twice, or stroll with the jet set in Puerto Banus, and admire the extravagant yachts.
The Costa's nightlife ranges from lively to serene, and most town centres have ample restaurants and evening entertainment, though the trendiest places are to be found around Marbella and Puerto Banus.
Shopping is good in most towns along the Costa del Sol, inland you can find the local crafts and produce, though probably Malaga is the best for variety and Marbella, Puerto Banus for the designer boutiques.
